The design deliberately borrowed the flavour of celebrated corners from European tracks and set them on a site with substantial natural elevation\, most obviously the steep climb to the first corner. It remains one of the more ambitious purpose-built venues of the modern era\, though its notoriously bumpy surface has needed repeated attention. \nWhen was its first Grand Prix?\nThe United States Grand Prix arrived at the circuit in November 2012\, ending a two-year absence from the calendar and giving the sport a settled American home after a long run of short-lived venues. It has held the race every year since apart from 2020. The Austin round is widely credited with rebuilding Formula 1’s audience in the United States\, laying groundwork that the later Miami and Las Vegas events were able to build on. \nWhat’s the circuit like?\nOne of the more complete tests on the calendar. The lap opens with a blind uphill left into Turn 1\, drops into a fast esses sequence that rewards commitment and a well-balanced car\, and then settles into a slower\, more technical final third. Downforce levels are medium to high\, and the long back straight into a tight left provides a genuine passing zone. Tyre loading through the high-speed changes of direction is severe\, and degradation is often a live strategic question. The surface is famously uneven\, and how a car copes with the bumps frequently matters as much as its raw aerodynamic performance. \nWhy go?\nAustin does the weekend properly. The city is a music town that treats the race as an excuse for a festival\, the food is excellent\, and the crowd is a genuine mix of American newcomers and travelling diehards. Late October in Texas is usually warm and pleasant\, though it can turn wet and cold without much notice. The venue has good sightlines from the natural slopes and an observation tower\, and the concert schedule is a substantial part of the ticket rather than an afterthought. \nWhere is the best place to watch?\nThe Turn 1 grandstands are the obvious pick\, giving you the uphill braking zone and the best lap-one view in North America. Turn 12\, at the end of the back straight\, is the main overtaking spot and worth a seat. The Turn 9 area covers the fast esses and is the place to appreciate a car at high speed. The main grandstand offers pit lane access to the eye and the finish. General admission on the hills between Turns 2 and 6 is superb value with real elevation.

SUMMARY:Mexico City Grand Prix 2026
DESCRIPTION:Mexico City\n \n Sepang International Circuit\n\n \n \n Kuala Lumpur\, Malaysia • Map\n \n \n\n \n First race1999\n Races held20\n Most winsSebastian Vettel (4)\n Most wins (team)Ferrari (7)\n Most polesLewis Hamilton (5)\n \n\n \n Last 10 winners2026 – Max Verstappen2017 – Max Verstappen2016 – Daniel Ricciardo2015 – Sebastian Vettel2014 – Lewis Hamilton2013 – Sebastian Vettel2012 – Fernando Alonso2011 – Sebastian Vettel2010 – Sebastian Vettel2009 – Jenson Button\n Last 10 poles2026 – Max Verstappen2017 – Lewis Hamilton2016 – Lewis Hamilton2015 – Lewis Hamilton2014 – Lewis Hamilton2013 – Sebastian Vettel2012 – Lewis Hamilton2011 – Sebastian Vettel2010 – Mark Webber2009 – Jenson Button\n \n \n \nWhen was the track built?\nThe circuit was laid out in the Magdalena Mixhuca sports park in Mexico City and opened in 1962. It has been reconfigured several times\, most significantly for its modern return in 2015\, when the fearsome Peraltada banked corner was cut and the lap redirected through a baseball stadium instead. That change cost the track its most famous corner but gave it a grandstand section unlike anything else in the sport\, with the crowd wrapped almost entirely around the cars. \nWhen was its first Grand Prix?\nA non-championship race ran in 1962\, with the first world championship Mexican Grand Prix following in 1963. The event ran through to 1970\, when crowd control problems ended it\, then returned for a spell in the late 1980s before disappearing again. Its most recent revival came in 2015\, backed by strong local interest and a passionate home crowd\, and it has been a reliable fixture of the calendar’s American leg since. \nWhat’s the circuit like?\nThe altitude is the whole story. At well over two thousand metres\, the air is thin\, so cars run maximum downforce wings and still generate less grip than a low-downforce circuit at sea level. Straight-line speeds are enormous as a result\, and the run to Turn 1 is among the longest anywhere. Cooling is a serious engineering headache\, with brakes and power units both struggling to shed heat in thin air. Tyres run cool and can be hard to switch on. Overtaking into the first corner is genuine\, though the wide entry and three-abreast temptation makes lap one a lottery. \nWhy go?\nThe crowd is the reason. Mexico City fills the venue with a noise and colour that few other rounds match\, and the stadium section on a Sunday afternoon is one of the great experiences in the sport. Late October coincides with Day of the Dead celebrations\, so the city itself is at its most vivid. Altitude is worth respecting if you are arriving from sea level\, and the weather is mild rather than hot. The city has extraordinary food and a metro that gets you to the gate. \nWhere is the best place to watch?\nThe stadium section grandstands are the signature view\, with cars threading a slow sequence inside a baseball arena surrounded by noise on all sides. The Turn 1 stands cover the end of the long straight and the heaviest braking\, which is where the overtaking happens. The Turn 4 area offers a good view of the esses and the first sector. The main grandstand covers the start and the pits. Almost anywhere in the stadium is worth paying extra for\, purely for atmosphere.
